The world and it’s places are evolving, but behind the many cultures that are quickly migrating, we stumble upon Riverside Highschool: the teenage wasteland of the grunge era. These were the kids who were left behind, but certainly aren’t going to be known as such. These are the kids who are crazy, liars, lazy; these are the kids who are alive. Seventeen years ago, Scarlette Mason entered the world into a small, claustrophobic bathroom of a rundown Brooklyn apartment. Her Mother, hooked on illegalities of all kinds at the time failed to know the identity of her daughters father, or even have any sort indication as to who the man in question was. After a short lived relationship with her new born daughter and trying to bring up young Scarlette by herself, she eventually surrendered to the pressures of drugs and depression, abandoning Scarlette before trying to take her own life. Scarlette was taken into care, and the fate of her Mother is unknown after the dishevelled junkie left New York and was never seen again. After being rejected by numerous families for her difficult, toddler tearaway behaviour, Scarlette was eventually homed at the age of one with a loving young British native, New York residing couple, with more money than was probably even healthy for anyone to own, residing in beautiful and privileged Upper East Manhattan, a million miles away from anything her biological mother could have ever dreamed of.
Seventeen years later and oblivious to the extremely privileged life she leads opposed to most around her, Scarlette, or Scout as she is now more favourably recognized as, is incredibly grounded focusing the majority of her time on her passion; art. First discovering her artistic talents at the age of ten, Scout pretty much doodles and customizes just about everything she can get her hands on; a habit that is forever distracting her from anything else remotely interesting. It only takes a glance into her bedroom to see through the artistic eyes of Scarlette Mason.; with fantastic drawings and paintings sprawled over just about every bit of wall space there is. It’s almost claustrophobic.
Despite her Mother’s obvious battles with alcohol and drug addictions herself, it would be enough to make just about anyone completely against all things intoxication providing. Foolishly, Scout has let herself get carried away with illegalities and such far too easily during her time in high school, something she is dearly ashamed of. Drinking herself into a hideous state and smoking enough cigarettes to provide her with just about every cancer known are just another part of her everyday life. And strangely it seems the very things that caused her biological Mother to go off the rails are the very things that keep Scout on them.
